Jennifer Sperber, LCSW is a New York-based Licensed Therapist specializing in the treatment of relational issues, life transitions, anxiety, and mood disorders.

ABOUT ME

I am a Psychotherapist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I frequently work with young adults and college students coping with the challenges of adulthood, creative artists seeking creative solutions, and people of all ages embarking on life transitions, exploring family dynamics, working through relationship issues, and navigating identity concerns.

My therapy sessions are collaborative, dynamic, and non-judgmental. I aim to validate, but also challenge, my clients, and always practice with warmth, curiosity, and a sense of humor. I practice from the belief that when we understand why we want, act or feel a certain way, we are more equipped to manage our feelings, make changes in our circumstances, and move in the direction of happy, full lives.

My primary approach to therapy is psychodynamic and relational, with an emphasis on developing insight and building a strong sense of self.  This means that in my office, I invite you to explore your behavioral and emotional patterns to identify your needs and better your relationship with yourself and others. I also draw upon skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness to provide support and relief.  These skills might include learning to challenge your thoughts, improving your ability to communicate, and regulating overwhelming emotions.

Prior to being a therapist, I worked in film and television, where I nursed a love of storytelling that persists in my work with my clients today. I am an enthusiastic animal lover, a frequent beachgoer, and I love my work as a therapist in Brooklyn.

"Maybe happiness is this: not feeling that you should be elsewhere, doing something else, being someone else."

-Eric Weiner
